Seeking a motivated, high potential individual with a passion for developing insights through the power of data to help solve our biggest challenges as a business. Candidate will be responsible for working with a variety of data sources (internal, external, quantitative, and qualitative) to both build transparency across the organization as well as develop foundational insights. Highly cross-functional role that maintains a broad area of focus across the enterprise (examples: strategic pricing analytics, predicting store performance, understanding our customers, etc.). Operates with a deep understanding of our enterprise data and is self-sufficient in scoping analyses, driving solutions, and presenting findings to leadership.
1. Uses sharp business knowledge and innovation to help solve our organization’s most serious business problems and develops ways to build data transparency in areas where it does not exist.
2. Builds and grows partnerships with executives, business leaders, and project managers to understand key business questions that need solved, data-gaps that inhibit decision making, etc.
3. Partners closely with the Marketing, IT, Stores, Real Estate and Merchandising teams to develop data-driven insights to issues.
4. Defines, scopes, and executes solutions to these problems using creative thinking, a variety of tools, and multiple data sources.
5. Presents solutions to senior leadership, trains the business teams on how to use and/or what they mean, and iterates based on feedback until they are truly embedded and embraced across the organization.
6. Helps develop a vision for data-driven insights at Big Lots and builds data fluency across the organization.
Qualification
1. Bachelor’s Degree in data science, information systems, business or business analytics, engineering, statistics, or related quantitative field (or equivalent work experience that demonstrates data fluency) required. Master’s Degree preferred.
2. Minimum five years of work experience in a broad range of fields, with the key priority being razor sharp business intuition and a natural knack for working with numbers required.
3. Minimum three to five years of project management experience preferred.
4. Eagerness to always learn and grow is preferred.
5. Possessing a belief/mindset that data and analysis is not our “goal”, but the primary tool we use to drive business insights, is preferred.
6. Desire and ability to get “in the weeds” of data to uncover solutions required. Experience using any or all of: Power BI/DAX, Tableau, Alteryx, Macros in Excel/VBA, Python, R, or other similar tools/languages strongly preferred.
7. Strong interpersonal and collaborative teamwork skills required. Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills required. Ability to tailor messaging to the proper audience required. Ability to guide and motivate cross-functional groups of teams required.
8. Strong business and financial acumen, with strategic focus and experience in effective change management required. Ability to partner successfully, interact effectively, and influence all levels from other analysts up to the CEO required.
9. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills required.
